The PE curriculum is designed to inspire all pupils to succeed and excel in a rich variety of sport and other physically demanding activities.
Through a variety of practical activities, together with knowledge and understanding, pupils will develop competence to excel in a broad range of activities. They will improve their ability to be physically active for sustained periods of time.
They will engage in competitive sports and activities and lead healthy, active lives and develop in a way that is suitable to their individual needs.
In Years 7, 8 and 9 pupils will:
- Be taught to use tactics and strategies to overcome opponents in football and softball.
- Learn how to develop their technique and improve their performance in a range of activities, including swimming, table tennis and trampolining.
- Be taught how to actively participate in outdoor and adventurous activities such as mountain biking, climbing, skiing and kayaking. They will be provided with opportunities to work together, developing new skills to solve problems.
- Learn how to analyse their performances compared to previous ones and demonstrate improvement in a range of activities including gym, fitness and different forms of dance.
Opportunities to participate in the lunchtime, after school and weekend clubs, which are available, together with running, table tennis and football competitions.
Formative assessment takes place throughout the half term block of work, leading to a grade reflecting individual performance and effort.
